Sweden pulls Nordic Airways' license Stockholm, Sweden | January 25, 2009 12:01:13 AM IS Swedish transportation officials have suspended the license of financially struggling Nordic Airways, perhaps stranding travelers in Iraq, officials said. The Swedish Transport Agency said Saturday it had suspended the carrier's temporary operating license because its financial difficulties meant it was no longer able to fulfill its commitments and duties to its passengers, the Swedish news agency TT reported. But the move means Nordic Airways passengers were at risk of being stranded in Iraq, since Nordic was the only airline operating between Stockholm and Baghdad. The exact number of passengers affected was unknown, although the Swedish foreign ministry indicated it had not heard from any stranded passengers in the country. As far as I know, Nordic Airways had one flight to northern Iraq last Tuesday and another to Baghdad last Friday, Transport Agency Divisional Manager Simon Posluk told the news agency.
